Welcome to Békés county’s website

Békés county embarked on a new path following the political elections in October 2006. Our work is characterized by professional competence, readiness to co-operate, openness and determination. Our aims and objectives have been formulated and the route leading to their implementation has been set.

 What are our aims?

 Firstly, job creation - as well as preservation of existing employment - is worth mentioning. Road construction, to which I am committed in the future, is a prerequisite for job creation. I think that everybody agrees that road development, in conjunction with economic development, must begin with road Number 44.

Likewise, education is closely linked with economic development. The most fundamental objective, in order to avoid having anyone forced to leave the county in order to seek employment, is to enable all those who are interested to obtain marketable knowledge, skills and „know-how” - that is why we have established our educational networks.

Secondly, health must play an important role among our aims: health of both body and mind; that is guaranteed by high quality health and social care where everybody has an equal right to maximum care and attention.

We must encourage spiritual and mental health with programmes which support the establishment of a society which is pleasant, clean and orderly, where cultural life is rich and vibrant, and holds - in addition to opportunities for our own recreation - attractions for tourists.

Our third most important aim is to preserve, confirm and expand the position of Békés county with regard to autonomy and to mitigate the adverse effects of the Government’s endeavours in relation to structural transformation. In addition, being a border area, we must benefit from the EU accession of Romania; that is why we have confirmed our written contacts with both Arad and Bihor counties.

I believe that we must work towards the above goals. I feel that the mission of both Békés County Government and Békés County General Assembly is to serve the people of Békés county. I would like to increase the attractiveness of Békés County Government as a service provider and to restore its ability to implement its plans. Together with the majority of the representatives of Békés County General Assembly, we declare that the new vision of Békés County Government must be strengthened, since the County Government represents interests, protects and preserves values, thinks about the county as a whole and also provides public services.

I have always clearly demonstrated and emphasized the need for co-operation because the only way to fulfill our goals is by working together, paying attention to and listening to each other. Immanuel Kant says: „The wish of a single person is not sufficient; everyone must so wish” and I agree with his sentiments.

I declare that Békés county is our home, a place where we live and where we anticipate visitors who are curious about our county’s values, assets and attractions.
